   Nesta espetacular trilha sonora desse grande clássico de 1940, vencedor de dois Oscars, estão interpretações de peças de Bach, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Beethoven, Schubert, entre outros, tendo na regência a admirável presença de Leopold Stokowsk à frente da  Orquestra Filarmônica da Filadélfia.

   Para nós que vivemos alardeando  não tolerar coletâneas, parece contracenso que este blog esteja ficando recheado delas... Mas, como trilha sonora, não poderia ser de outra maneira não é?  Além do mais, o conteúdo, a Regência e a Orquestra depõem favoravelmente a esta belíssima Coletânea.

  "Leopold Strokowski's 1940 recordings with the Philadelphia Orchestra for the movie Fantasia were landmarks on several counts. Apart from attempting to bring classical ... Full Descriptionmusic to the masses in the theater, the soundtrack album -- which came out on LP in the 1950s -- was one of the earliest stereo recordings, featuring some of the most enjoyable high-fidelity sound of the period and boasting impeccable performances (even if the pieces were mostly re-edited and shortened). Apart from his reputation as a fiercely independent musical personality, Stokowski was also a showman with very few peers, and his careful yet extroverted performances of these pieces (including Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" and the summary of Beethoven's "Pastorale Symphony") introduced many listeners not blessed with classical music educations to these pieces for the first time. (As the film wasn't a success on its initial release, there weren't millions of such listeners, but at least many tens of thousands.) The performances on Fantasia retain their luster in the modern era, with sound clean enough that they do not need to be considered "historical" recordings. The recordings are also infinitely preferable to the mid-'80s attempt to re-score Fantasia with a modern orchestra and modern sound -- not only did the latter fall considerably short of what people expected, but the interpretations were flaccid and dull by comparison with the originals."  Bruce Eder in www.demonoid.com

COLETÂNEA

• Não tolerava coletaneas (na minha mocidade). A verdade é que há algumas odiosas realmente. Gravadoras de gabarito não relutavam em unir num só disco, compositores de época, estilo e Escola totalmente diversas, e o pior, como o espaço de apenas um vinil é muito pequeno, geralmente gravava-se só um movimento de determinada peça, geralmente a Abertura.

Coisa tão sem sentido como ouvir-se um Prelúdio sem a Fuga, uma espécie de tortura japonesa, não, é pior ainda (creio). Ainda admitia Villa-Lobos + Ginastera ou Debussy + Ravel, só pra citar alguns exemplos, nem J.S.Bach + Handel jamais aceitei (por motivos óbvios). Johann Pachelbel + J.S.Bach talves aceitasse, mas não me lembro de ter visto tal coletanea. Agora, misturar Barroco com Classicismo, Romantismo com Impressionismo, liquidificar tudo e servir inescrupulosamente como belo manjar...

• Os tempos mudam, as pessoas mudam, mudam as coletaneas, eu também mudei. Eis aí uma ótima coletanea, o ruim é que quando vai começando, acaba!
